S C U L P T U R E _ JOHN DE PAULEY
Born London 1963 .
As a young man John de Pauley embarked on an apprenticeship in stonemasonry.
Rooted in the discipline of carving and restoration he has worked on some of the Nation ‘s most
important buildings of architectural and historic significance. His rigorous training underpins his work today, combining classical elements with the abstract and the unexpected.
His directly carved pieces emerge from the rich textures and colours of Stone + Marble,
predominantly quarried from South West England where he has lived for over 30 years.
As well as Stone and Marble John also makes works in Steel, Wood and Plaster. Ideas often come
directly through the making of Marquette’s and these when cast in Bronze become sculptures in
their own right. His deep understanding of material delivers new forms that resonate with a
particular and timeless beauty.
